CHD is weird.

“You wanna know something, Mom? Everything that is weird today is Theodore magic!”

My little 8-year-old was certainly on to something, as we were walking the beach back in August; she made a very basic point that carries a whole lot of punch.  ‘𝘞𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘥’… It’s such an innocent way to put it. 

CHD is weird. You watched your adorable baby brother enter, and then exit this world all before turning five…

CHD is weird. You saw tubes, wires, bandages, and pumps connected to every square inch of his body, and still called him “sooo cute” in your tiny squeaky voice…

CHD is weird. You wanted to help feed your brother, and thought it was “silly” that he could only eat through a tube in his nose… 

CHD is weird. You helped set-up his blue bedroom upstairs, only to watch us take it apart when he never came home… 

CHD is weird. You pick out a sweet treat every August and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Heaven, while discussing how tall your brother may have been this year… 

CHD is weird. You like to look for those ‘magical moments’, such as spotting a red cardinal, unexpectedly meeting new ‘heart families’, and finding extra ways of ‘doing good’ in honor of our Warrior…. 

I agree, MacKenna, CHD is weird… 

One minute you’re holding your child in your arms, and then ‘POOF’, like magic, they disappear. CHD is weird… so weird, that it magically changes your entire world. Life itself becomes an illusion created by your own perception; desperate for purpose, and heavily dependent on good perspective.
